The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has launched EmaraTax on December 5, 2022

The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has launched its new integrated and fully developed digital tax administration platform EmaraTax on December 5, 2022. 

 

Emara Tax significantly enhances taxpayer access to the FTA’s services, payment of taxes and obtaining refunds. The new platform also enhances the ability of the FTA to administer taxes in the UAE and enables better, faster decision-making and earlier engagement with taxpayers that need support.


EmaraTax offers easy-to-use navigation, intuitive design, and improved self-help options. EmaraTax will significantly enhance the way that taxpayers can access the FTA’s services, pay their taxes, and obtain refunds. 

 

Your existing FTA account details have automatically been transferred to EmaraTax. EmaraTax will prompt you to reset your password the first time you log in. 

 

 

Changes affecting users/taxpayers

 

Following the development of a new VAT and Excise Tax platform by the FTA the EmaraTax, below changes have occurred

If you already have an account with the FTA you will need to reset your password before you login to EmaraTax for the first time.  

What is new in EmaraTax

 

         1. Add home country to approved list of countries in the Business Visitor Refund

 

If you are applying for a business visitor refund, only the countries with reciprocal arrangements with UAE can be found under countries list. In case, your company has branches in many countries, the refund is only available to the branch(es) which are established in a country that has a reciprocal arrangement with UAE. If your country is not listed, then you can request to FTA to include your country.

2. Registration and Amendment of TINCO (VAT Clearing company).

 

A TINCO registration allows the VAT clearing company to facilitate the imports of VAT goods for non-registered importers under suspension arrangements and direct imports.

 

On “pre-approval” of the submitted registration application by the FTA, the applicant needs to procure a Financial Guarantee for the amount requested by the FTA from the bank or a financial institution, upload a scanned copy of the Financial Guarantee and submit the application to FTA. The applicant needs to schedule an appointment with FTA by sending a mail to the email address Freight.Forwarders@tax.gov.ae and visit FTA office in person to submit the original Financial Guarantee document and 2 original copies each of the signed Tax Services Agreement and the Addendum. After reviewing the documents, FTA will approve the registration application and the TINCO will get listed in the published list of VAT Clearing Companies in the FTA website.

3. Change in length of Tax period

 

EmaraTax dashboard allows users/taxpayers to change the length of Tax period. You can switch your current VAT return filing frequency to either Quarterly or Monthly. You must enter detailed description with reason for changing the length of Tax Period and upload supporting documents.

4. Changing the Stagger or Tax quarter


If you are a registered user and filing your VAT return quarterly, you can submit an application to the FTA for changing the stagger/quarter. Changing stagger will allow you to modify the tax period. You could do this to align your tax period with your financial year. You must enter detailed description with reason for changing the Stagger / Tax Period and upload supporting documents.

          5. Apply for a physical copy of VAT certificate from the FTA.

If you need a physical copy of the VAT certificate, you can submit an application towards that to the FTA through EmaraTax portal.
